What is an LTAC?
An LTAC is a Long Term Acute Care hospital designed for patients that are acutely ill and require a physician's care each day, just as in a "traditional" hospital, but are medically complex and not going to be ready for discharge in a short period of time.
Most LTAC patients are transferred from a traditional hospital once they are medically stable, but they can also be admitted from a skilled nursing facility, home, or a physician's office. Just as with any hospital admission, the patient must meet criteria and have admission orders from their physician.
A typical LTAC patient may require care for:
- Ventilator Weaning
- Complex Wounds
- Infections requiring IV antibiotics
- Complications from extensive surgery
- Multi-system failures
- TPN
- Neurological / traumatic injuries
- Not yet able to participate in acute rehabilitation due to medical complexity
- Bariatric Care
Our goal for each of our patients is to return them to their highest level of function and wellness.
